Beamsplitters are often classified according to their construction.The beam splitter in a trinocular microscope controls the amount of light that travels up to the camera on the trinocular port. When light enters the microscope, it is split into two paths – one path goes to the eyepieces, and the other path goes to the camera.

A microscope c-mount adapter allows you to connect a microscope camera to the trinocular port of the microscope (see image below). C-Mount adapters are microscope specific, which means they are designed specifically for the brand of microscope to keep the camera in focus while the eyepieces are in focus.A C mount is a type of lens mount commonly found on 16 mm movie cameras, closed-circuit television cameras, machine vision cameras and microscope phototubes. C-mount lenses provide a male thread, which mates with a female thread on the camera.The C-mount is a standardized threaded connection for professional-grade (moving-image) camera lenses. The thread has an outer diameter equal to 1 inch (2.54 cm) and a 1/32-inch pitch.The C-Mount flange distance is 17.526mm. It is ideal for many industrial applications, as the threaded mount provides a robust, controlled interface between the camera and lens. The CS-Mount standard is the same as the C-Mount standard, but with a reduced flange distance of 12.526mm.

The objective lens of a microscope is the one at the bottom near the sample. At its simplest, it is a very high-powered magnifying glass, with very short focal length. This is brought very close to the specimen being examined so that the light from the specimen comes to a focus inside the microscope tube.The objective lens is made up of many lenses that work together to magnify an item and produce a bigger picture. Objective lenses could be utilized for a variety of purposes, including extreme magnification and spatial filtering.A convex lens is thicker at the center than the edge and will focus a beam of light to a point a certain distance in front of the lens (the focal length). A concave lens is the opposite, being thicker at the edge than the center and spreading out a beam of light. Microscopes use convex lenses in order to focus light.
